Urban Oyster Food Tour

New York, New York – Part 4, Things to do in various Neighbourhoods

There was a funny commercial repeatedly playing on TV in the yellow cabs in New York while we were there couple of weeks ago – It was reminding New Yorkers about the fact that millions of people from all around the world come to visit New York every year, to spend their holidays there, as it is such a great city. The commercial was urging the New Yorkers not to miss out on all that fun and action and to explore their home town more.

That is so true – just this summer a friend from work, who has lived in London all her life, was actually considering spending her holiday at home in London, because there were so many “tourist attractions” and other nice places she had actually never visited. After these two years that we’ve lived here I still often feel like a tourist, especially on the weekends when we are doing new things and visiting new places. Sometimes I even feel guilty if we just stay at home, go out for a jog and cook a dinner at home – I feel like I should be somewhere out discovering more. It doesn’t help that I recently discovered this London pop-up site, that has all these amazing pop-up restaurants and events that are there only for a very limited time…there just isn’t enough time! But yet, when it comes to our holidays, we always go abroad or at least to some other city in the UK – we just cannot spend a holiday in the same city where we work, no matter how awesome it is.

Anyway, back to New York – below are my tips for fun things to do in the different areas of New York. I am generally not a fan of museums, so you won’t find those listed here. And sorry in advance, this is going to be quite a long post… (more…)
